The power of the pop song is innate. Sometimes even the writers fear it. Never Get Enough didn’t even make the initial album recording sessions. It was too perfect. Even for Das Pop. It took some cajoling from the brothers Dewaele, some arranging on the band’s part, but what they commited to tape is as big, bold, and catchy, as they first feared. What you are listening to is Das Pop indulging their Jackson Five fantasies in the Kink’s recording studio with Soulwax at the desk. The perfect summer pop song. That cold, cold glass of lemonade your dry throats have been aching for. Yes, that’s perfect.
Metric - Fantasies
Four years is not a short amount of time. But it’s been that long since Toronto indie rock outfit Metric graced us with an album following the success of debut Live It Out in 2005. The band has toured significantly during this period, raising money for charity along the way.
Their upcoming album, Fantasies, is expected to be available on April 14. The album is being released on Arts & Crafts in Mexico and Last Gang Records in Canada, but the band is independently putting out Fantasies in the United States. Vocalist Emily Haines has stated that she set out to write “genuine” and “simple” lyrics, while Metric’s guitarist Jimmy Shaw describes the sound on Fantasies as “very big,” and “very dreamy.” The first single, “Help I’m Alive,” has already become a hit on Canadian indie rock radio stations, and is a powerful, yet sparse and confessional affair.
